Keeping pace with rising parcel volumes is becoming increasingly demanding as warehouses and distribution centers adopt more connected vision technologies. Modern warehouse and logistics inspection systems must integrate a growing number of devices, from barcode and QR code scanners to machine vision cameras, photoelectric sensors, sortation actuators, and conveyor/PLC controllers, while keeping pace with fast-moving lines and responding immediately to exceptions. As throughput requirements continue to grow, businesses also need solutions that can scale with changing requirements without repeatedly replacing their core computing infrastructure. NEXCOM addresses these challenges with the NDiS B340, a compact, fanless box PC designed to provide reliable edge computing for camera-based inspection on the warehouse floor.

The NDiS B340 is designed to simplify the integration of camera-based inspection systems while providing the flexibility needed for long-term deployments on the warehouse floor. Its sturdy aluminum enclosure efficiently dissipates heat for stable, fanless operation, and withstands the dust, vibration, and temperature swings typical of conveyor lines and dock areas. The platform also supports multiple low-power Intel® processor options, allowing system integrators to select the performance level that best fits their applications — from barcode/QR code verification to multi-camera dimensioning and defect detection — while maintaining the same chassis and connectors. With its combination of flexible expansion, low-power operation, and long-term platform compatibility, the NDiS B340 provides a practical foundation for warehouse and logistics inspection systems that need to scale as sorting and inspection requirements evolve.
Warehouse inspection lines often expand as businesses add more cameras, scanners, or sortation stations. Replacing the entire computing platform every time new functionality is required can increase costs and generate unnecessary electronic waste. For applications requiring additional cameras or networking capabilities, the NDiS B340 can be paired with the DockInfinity-E4X1 expansion kit. The expansion kit adds a PCIe x4 interface for PoE, additional network, frame-grabber/capture, and other application-specific cards, giving system integrators greater flexibility to power and connect additional GigE Vision cameras without external PoE injectors as an inspection line grows. For a closer look at DockInfinity and its expansion capabilities, see Expand Beyond Limits: Unlocking New Possibilities with DockInfinity.
The NDiS B340 further supports long-term scalability through its pin-compatible multi-platform design. The same chassis and connectors accommodate Intel Atom® x7000RE Series processors as well as Intel® Processor N97 and N150 options, allowing businesses to move between different performance tiers or processor generations without redesigning the system. Such flexibility can extend the service life of warehouse inspection deployments while reducing the need for complete system replacements.
Camera-based inspection on a moving conveyor line depends on getting enough image data off the sensor before the next item arrives. The NDiS B340's 6 x USB 2.0 ports comfortably handle lower-resolution or lower-frame-rate inspection tasks — barcode/QR code verification, presence-and-count checks, and basic label or surface inspection with VGA-to-2MP cameras — as well as USB barcode scanners and other peripherals. For higher-resolution or multi-camera dimensioning and defect-detection systems, the 2 x Intel® LAN ports support GigE Vision cameras over longer cable runs, and the PCIe x4 expansion slot can add a PoE or frame-grabber card via DockInfinity-E4X1 to power additional cameras without external injectors. This lets integrators match camera bandwidth to the task — USB 2.0 for simpler checks, LAN/PoE for higher-throughput lines — on the same platform. The NDiS B340 also provides RS-232/422/485 connectivity for barcode scanners, label printers, and PLC/conveyor controllers. Its DB15 GPIO interface provides six digital inputs and six digital outputs, giving integrators a direct way to connect line sensors and actuators without adding external I/O modules. Digital inputs can trigger image capture from photoelectric or proximity sensors as a package passes, while digital outputs can drive reject-arm actuators, stack lights, or signal upstream systems when a scan failure or defect is detected.
With local edge computing, the NDiS B340 can also run inspection logic directly at the line without relying entirely on cloud connectivity, helping warehouse inspection systems respond immediately to events such as failed scans, mislabeled packages, or sensor faults. Optional 5G/LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity further expands deployment flexibility, making the NDiS B340 a versatile platform for parcel sortation, package dimensioning and damage inspection, and other connected logistics vision applications.
