NEXCOM Selects LSI Tarari Content Processors for Next Generation of Content-inspection Solutions for IPS/IDS/AV/UTM/QoS

RSA, SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., April 20, 2009

NEXCOM International Co., Ltd., a leading supplier of network security appliances, today announced that it is now supplying appliances with on-board LSI Tarari Content Processors. The new content processing and Regular Expression (RegEx) solutions provide performance from 250 Mb/s to 3 Gb/s, which will meet the needs of Small to Medium Business (SMB) and Branch Office applications.

In addition, many of Nexcom's extensive array of network security appliances, including models based on embedded single and multicore processors from Intel, RMI and VIA, can now be upgraded with award-winning content inspection processors from LSI Corporation.

"We are pleased to be working with LSI as our deep packet inspection partner of choice." said Andrew Huang, Associate Vice President, NEXCOM. "Now our customers can enjoy the benefits of LSI hardware acceleration for their content inspection needs."

The LSI™ Tarari® Content Processor provides a comprehensive set of functions for security, quality of service, content-based billing, and bandwidth management applications. Because the solutions use common regular expression rules and software APIs for Intel EP80579, VIA C7 and RMI XLR and XLS processors, customers can deploy multiple LSI deep packet inspection (DPI) solutions without significant incremental effort, saving engineering expense and shortening time to market.

"NEXCOM has been quick to grasp the benefits that we have built into our family of LSI Tarari Content Processors," said Randy Smerik, senior vice president, Network Components Division, LSI. "The customers of their small form factor appliances can now deploy hardware-accelerated deep packet inspection across a wide range of performances."

Deep packet inspection is an important next step in the evolution of networking systems. However, DPI can require significant processing power when implemented in host software, resulting in higher power consumption and cost. LSI Tarari Content Processors offload the host CPU from heavy content inspection tasks, freeing up CPU cycles to service other applications.

Three new NEXCOM appliances can use LSI Tarari Content Processor technology to implement full cross-packet Inspection in hardware.
- DNA 940 - Desktop Intel® Celeron® M 600MHz CPU with GbE x 4
- DNA 950 - Desktop Intel® Tolapai Platform with 4 x GbE
- DNA 1500 - Desktop RMI XLS 204/ 208 CPU with WAN x 1, SW LAN x 5

This makes them ideal platforms for anti-virus, anti-spam, intrusion prevention/detection system (IPS/IDS), content-based routing (CBR), content-based billing, QoS, and bandwidth management applications. Sample systems will be on display on the LSI Corporation booth #539 at the RSA Conference, Moscone Center, San Francisco from April 20th - 23rd.
